Hello Codex Team,
I am writing to propose two feature enhancements for future versions of Codex that would significantly improve the developer experience, especially for backend and cloud-native developers.
- Native SSH Remote Server Editing Support
Description: Integrate a built-in SSH connection capability (similar to the "Remote - SSH" extension in VS Code).
Use Case: Many developers work directly on remote Linux servers or cloud instances. Currently, leveraging AI assistance for remote files is cumbersome and often requires local file syncing. Native SSH support would allow Codex to interact directly with remote file systems, providing seamless, real-time AI assistance without leaving the remote environment.
- Enhanced Code Diff and Inline Suggestion UI
Description: Optimize the code diff visualization and interaction, taking inspiration from GitHub Copilot's inline diff experience.
Use Case: When Codex generates or refactors code, reviewing the changes can sometimes be visually overwhelming. A clearer, inline or side-by-side diff UI with intuitive shortcuts (e.g., easy "Accept", "Reject", or "Partial Accept" actions) would greatly reduce cognitive load and make reviewing AI-generated code much faster and safer.
Implementing these features would make Codex a much more powerful and versatile tool, bridging the gap between local development and remote server workflows while ensuring a smoother, more efficient code review process.
