What version of the Codex App are you using (From “About Codex” dialog)?

Version 26.611.61753 • Released Jun 17, 2026

What subscription do you have?

Plus

What platform is your computer?

Darwin 24.4.0 arm64 arm

What issue are you seeing?

I asked Codex to prepare a marketing document and campaign plan. Instead of producing a final deliverable, the task appeared to enter a planning loop and continued running for over an hour.

The agent repeatedly revisited planning and analysis steps without converging on a completed document. There were no obvious errors, but progress appeared stalled and no meaningful output was generated despite the extended runtime.

This issue occurred during a non-coding workflow involving marketing strategy and document preparation rather than software development.

What steps can reproduce the bug?

Feedback ID: 019ed4d6-df46-7312-899b-d53fd0bded93

What is the expected behavior?

Codex should:

Detect when sufficient research and planning have been completed.
Produce a draft or final document within a reasonable timeframe.
Avoid repeatedly revisiting the same planning steps.
Surface partial results if the task requires additional processing time.
Automatically terminate planning loops when no meaningful progress is being made.

Additional information

This appears to be more noticeable on non-coding tasks such as marketing strategy, document preparation, and research workflows. The issue is not the total runtime itself, but the apparent lack of forward progress and absence of a final deliverable despite extended execution time.

If useful, I can provide the original prompt and additional task details.
