Windows app keeps showing update icon after restarting to update
What version of the Codex App are you using (From “About Codex” dialog)?
Latest Windows release available at the time of filing. Exact version was not captured yet.
What subscription do you have?
Not provided.
What platform is your computer?
Windows. Exact Windows version/build was not captured yet.
What issue are you seeing?
The Codex Windows app keeps showing the update icon / update indicator even after attempting to update.
Observed behavior:
- Codex shows an update icon in the UI.
- I click the update icon.
- Codex restarts as if it is applying the update.
- After Codex starts again, the update icon is still shown and it still prompts for an update.
This makes the app appear to be stuck in an update loop. It is unclear whether the update actually completed, failed silently, or whether the UI state is stale.
What steps can reproduce the bug?
- Open Codex on Windows with the latest available Windows app version.
- Wait for / observe the update icon in the UI.
- Click the update icon.
- Let Codex restart.
- Observe that the update icon is still present after restart.
What is the expected behavior?
After clicking update and restarting, Codex should either:
- complete the update and remove the update icon, or
- show a clear error message explaining that the update failed and what action is needed.
It should not keep showing the same update icon after every restart if no further update is actually available.
Additional information
I do not have logs captured yet. If maintainers need more details, I can provide the exact Codex version from the About dialog, Windows build, and any update-related logs in a follow-up comment.
