Android mobile remote connections require slow reconnects and hosts cannot be renamed

Summary

On the Android ChatGPT app, using Codex remote connections is inconvenient when the user has multiple computers or servers connected.

Currently, each time I enter the Codex mobile surface or switch between different computers/servers, the app appears to require a fresh reconnect. This usually takes more than 10 seconds. In addition, the Android app does not appear to let me rename the connected computers or servers, so when there are multiple hosts it can be hard to tell which machine is which.

Current behavior

1. Open ChatGPT on Android.
2. Enter the Codex / remote connection area.
3. The app often needs to reconnect to the computer/server again.
4. If there are multiple computers or servers, switching from one to another also requires reconnecting.
5. Each reconnect can take 10+ seconds.
6. The Android app does not provide a way to rename computers/servers or assign a custom display name.
7. With multiple hosts, the displayed names are not enough to confidently distinguish the correct computer/server.

Why this is a problem

For users with several development machines, Windows PCs, Linux servers, or remote hosts, the mobile experience becomes slow and confusing:

• every app entry or host switch has a noticeable wait;
• the wait makes mobile Codex feel unreliable even if the host is actually online;
• users can accidentally choose the wrong host because the mobile app does not support custom names;
• the problem becomes worse as the number of connected computers/servers grows.

Expected behavior / suggestions

Please consider improving the mobile remote connection UX:

1. Keep recently connected hosts warm or reconnect in the background, so returning to the Android app does not require a full manual reconnect every time.
2. Switching between online hosts should be much faster, ideally without forcing a full reconnect when the host is already available.
3. Add custom display names for connected computers/servers, editable from the Android app.
4. Sync host nicknames across mobile and desktop if possible.
5. Show extra host metadata to help distinguish machines, such as OS, hostname, last connected time, workspace path, or server label.
6. Optionally allow pinning/favoriting frequently used hosts.
