Windows Codex App stuck on splash screen after Store reinstall/register; logs show ready-to-show
What version of the Codex App are you using (From “About Codex” dialog)?
Codex Windows Store app package: OpenAI.Codex_26.616.6631.0_x64__2p2nqsd0c76g0 App-server version in log: 0.142.0-alpha.6 I cannot access “About Codex” because the app is stuck on the splash screen.

What platform is your computer?
Windows 11 Enterprise 10.0.22631, x64 Device: Lenovo 20VD Locale: zh-TW Display scaling: 150% / AppliedDPI 144 GPU: - Intel Iris Xe Graphics, driver 27.20.100.9415, 2021-03-22 - NVIDIA GeForce MX450, driver 27.21.14.6230, 2021-04-05
What issue are you seeing?
Codex Windows desktop app remains visually stuck on the splash / renderer initialization screen.
The app does not crash. Processes stay alive and report Responding=True. Desktop logs show that
the app-server transport starts, the initialize handshake succeeds, the main frame finishes
loading, and the window reaches ready-to-show, but the visible window remains on the splash
screen.
This started after Codex was reinstalled/repaired by Microsoft Store/AppX on 2026-06-22. The app
worked a few days earlier.
What steps can reproduce the bug?
- Launch Codex from the Windows Start menu / Microsoft Store app entry.
- Wait for initialization.
- The window remains stuck on the splash / renderer initialization screen.
I tried:
- Closing all Microsoft Store Codex desktop processes.
- Renaming GPU/cache directories under the Electron/Chromium profile.
- Renaming the full web profile so Codex rebuilt a fresh profile
After rebuilding the profile, the same issue remains.
What is the expected behavior?
Codex should leave the splash screen and show the main app UI or sign-in screen.
