Title: Codex Desktop silently stops processing until full app restart, while UI remains responsive
What version of the Codex App are you using (From “About Codex” dialog)?
26.616.51431 build 4212
What subscription do you have?
Pro
What platform is your computer?
Darwin 26.3.0 arm64 arm
What issue are you seeing?
Codex Desktop App frequently stops processing during normal use, but the UI itself remains interactive.
There is no visible error message. The app window can still be clicked and navigated, so it is not immediately obvious that Codex has stopped working. I usually notice the problem only when I open a new thread or submit a prompt in an existing thread.
After the issue occurs, Codex does not proceed/respond normally. The only reliable workaround is to fully quit the Codex Desktop App and relaunch it. After restarting, Codex works normally again for a while.
This happens approximately 5 times per day.
Full error message: none shown.
Prompt that triggered the issue: not consistent / happens during normal usage.
PII: none included.
What steps can reproduce the bug?
I do not have a deterministic minimal reproduction or code snippet yet. This happens during normal Codex Desktop App usage.
Steps observed:
- Open Codex Desktop App.
- Work in existing or new threads for some time.
- Codex eventually appears to stop processing in the background.
- The UI still remains interactive, so the failure is not immediately visible.
- Open a new thread or enter a prompt in an existing thread.
- Codex does not proceed/respond normally.
- Fully quit Codex Desktop App.
- Relaunch Codex Desktop App.
- Codex works normally again for a while.
Frequency: approximately 5 times per day.
Session ID: not available yet. I can provide one when the issue happens again.
Token limit usage: unknown.
Context window usage: unknown / not clearly related.
What is the expected behavior?
Codex Desktop App should continue processing and responding normally during regular use.
If Codex becomes unable to process a request, loses connection, or enters a stuck state, the app should clearly show an error or status message instead of silently failing while the UI remains interactive.
The user should not need to discover the problem by opening a new thread or submitting another prompt, and a full app restart should not be required to recover.

Additional notes:
- This does not appear to be a full UI freeze. The app UI remains interactive.
- The failure appears to be that Codex processing silently stops in the background.
- No visible error message is shown.
- The issue happens approximately 5 times per day.
- The only reliable workaround I have found is fully quitting and relaunching the Codex Desktop App.
