Summary

Codex frequently gets stuck at “Thinking” until I manually interrupt the task. This happens not only during /goal mode, but also during normal prompt-based tasks.

Environment

Codex surface: Windows desktop app
OS: Windows 11
Codex CLI version: not applicable; CLI is not used
App version: 26.616.71553
Execution mode: worktree

Repro steps

Open Codex on Windows.
Start a task in either /goal mode or normal prompt mode.
Codex begins executing.
After a while, it gets stuck at “Thinking”.
There is no visible tool/action progress.
Manually interrupt the task.
Continue/resume the task.
Codex starts working again.

Expected behavior

Codex should continue execution, or clearly show what it is waiting for.

Actual behavior

Codex remains stuck at “Thinking” until I manually interrupt it. After interrupting and continuing/resuming, it starts working again.

Frequency

This happens frequently, especially during longer tasks.

This happened again in the same /goal task.

New occurrence:

Mode: /goal
Surface: Windows desktop app
Execution mode: worktree
Behavior: Codex got stuck at “Thinking” again with no visible tool/action progress.
Recovery: I manually interrupted the task, then it became responsive again.
I submitted in-app feedback from the affected thread.

This happened again in the same /goal task.

I submitted another in-app feedback from the affected thread. It returned the same Session ID as before, likely because this is the same Codex thread/session.

Behavior:
Codex got stuck at “Thinking” again with no visible tool/action progress.
It became responsive only after I manually interrupted it.
