Summary

Codex frequently gets stuck at “Thinking” until I manually interrupt the task. This happens not only during /goal mode, but also during normal prompt-based tasks.

Environment

  • Codex surface: Windows desktop app
  • OS: Windows 11
  • Codex CLI version: not applicable; CLI is not used
  • App version: 26.616.71553
  • Execution mode: worktree

Repro steps

  1. Open Codex on Windows.
  2. Start a task in either /goal mode or normal prompt mode.
  3. Codex begins executing.
  4. After a while, it gets stuck at “Thinking”.
  5. There is no visible tool/action progress.
  6. Manually interrupt the task.
  7. Continue/resume the task.
  8. Codex starts working again.

Expected behavior

Codex should continue execution, or clearly show what it is waiting for.

Actual behavior

Codex remains stuck at “Thinking” until I manually interrupt it. After interrupting and continuing/resuming, it starts working again.

Frequency

This happens frequently, especially during longer tasks.
