What platform is your computer?
- macOS Tahoe
26.5.1 - MacBook Pro, 16-inch
- Apple M5 Max
- 128 GB memory
- Apple Silicon / arm64
- Serial number: redacted
What issue are you seeing?
After updating Codex Desktop to the latest version, Computer Use can no longer start. macOS immediately shows the following Gatekeeper-style dialog:
“Codex Computer Use” is damaged and can’t be opened. You should move it to the Trash. This file was downloaded on an unknown date.
At the same time, macOS also shows a separate verification dialog:
Verifying “Codex Computer Use”…
That verification dialog stays stuck at the very beginning of the progress bar with no visible progress. I eventually had to close/cancel the stuck verification dialog manually. Computer Use remains unusable after the update.
Steps to reproduce
- Update Codex Desktop to version
26.623.70822. - Open Codex Desktop after the update.
- Attempt to use Computer Use, or allow Codex to launch the bundled
Codex Computer Usehelper. - macOS shows the damaged-app warning.
- A separate “Verifying ‘Codex Computer Use’…” dialog appears but remains stuck at the start of the progress bar.
- Cancel/close the verification dialog because it does not complete.
Expected behavior
Codex Desktop should update cleanly, and the bundled Codex Computer Use helper should remain properly signed/notarized/quarantine-handled so that macOS can verify and launch it normally. Computer Use should open without a damaged-app warning or a permanently stuck verification dialog.
Actual behavior
Codex Computer Useis blocked by macOS as damaged.- The verification dialog hangs at the start and does not progress.
- Computer Use cannot be used after updating to
26.623.70822.
Additional information
This appears to be a regression of the recurring macOS damaged-helper / signing / quarantine issue for the bundled Computer Use helper. Related prior reports include #30524, #29584, #29190, #28485, #28274, and #28184.
Please prioritize the packaging/signing/notarization/quarantine handling for the bundled Codex Computer Use helper, because the latest update makes Computer Use unusable immediately after installation/update.
