Codex macOS app toolbar no longer shows environments, and Open with only shows Finder

What version of the Codex App are you using (From “About Codex” dialog)?

Version 26.623.81905 • Released Jun 30, 2026

What subscription do you have?

Pro

What platform is your computer?

macOS; uname -mprs: Darwin 25.5.0 arm64 arm

What issue are you seeing?

In the Codex macOS app, the toolbar “Toggle Summary” popover no longer shows the environments section at all. I can no longer view existing environments or add an environment from that toolbar popover.

The environment configuration itself appears intact. The environment.toml files are still present in the project folders, and the Codex Settings page shows the environments as properly configured.

Around the same time, the “Open with” menu also stopped listing my available apps. It now only shows Finder. The Finder entry in the menu uses the normal Finder icon, but the toolbar “Open with” button/icon itself appears to be Windows Explorer.

Because both issues started around the same time and both affect toolbar controls, this appears to be a Codex macOS app toolbar state/rendering issue rather than a project configuration issue.

What steps can reproduce the bug?

  1. Open the Codex macOS app.
  2. Open a project that has a valid environment.toml.
  3. Confirm that the environment appears correctly in Codex Settings.
  4. Open the toolbar “Toggle Summary” popover.
  5. Observe that the environments section is missing entirely.
  6. Open the “Open with” menu.
  7. Observe that only Finder appears in the menu. The Finder entry uses the normal Finder icon, but the toolbar “Open with” button/icon itself appears to be Windows Explorer.

What is the expected behavior?

The toolbar “Toggle Summary” popover should show the configured environments and allow adding/selecting environments.

The “Open with” menu should list the available apps/editors as it previously did.

Additional information

This affects all projects I’ve tested, not just one project. I have multiple projects with their own environment.toml files, and this setup worked normally until sometime last week.

There is no visible error text in the UI; the expected toolbar UI sections/options are missing.

Parallels Desktop is installed on this Mac, so Windows applications/icons may be present on the system. I’m not sure whether that is related, but mentioning it because the toolbar “Open with” icon appears to be Windows Explorer.
