Add a universal “Send to Chat” action(shortcut & DragDrop for selected code, terminal output, files, and images
What variant of Codex are you using?
Codex Desktop App - Windows.
What feature would you like to see?
I’d like Codex to make it easy to capture precise context from anywhere in the app and send it into the chat composer without copy/paste clutter.
Suggested behavior
Codex should have one consistent “Send to Chat” action across the app.
The same action should work through both:
- a keyboard shortcut, for fast capture from the current selection
- drag and drop, for moving files, folders, images, or selected UI content into the composer
Supported sources should include:
- selected editor lines
- current file or current cursor location
- file/folder entries from the explorer
- selected terminal output or recent command output
- previous chat/tool output
- pasted or dragged screenshots/images
In the composer, these should appear as clean chips/cards instead of large inline dumps.
Examples:
@useItemSearch.ts#L12-L19@README.md@apps/@terminal:zsh[image attachment1 or filename-loc]
Each chip/card should support preview, expand, remove, and ideally rename/edit before sending.
This would make context capture feel like a first-class Codex workflow: select or drag anything relevant, send it to chat, then write the actual request in plain language.
Example-
