- Codex CLI 0.142.0 and 0.142.5
- Terminal and Termius both reproduce
- ~/.codex reset still reproduces
- Empty directory also reproduces
Reproduction:
- codex
- select gpt-5.5
- ask: "analyze current directory files"
- CLI enters Working state
- crashes with: trace trap codexskills / codex
Control:
- gpt-5.4 works normally
- gpt-5.5 works in Codex desktop app
- pure chat in CLI works; only local tool/skills execution crashes
- same machine reportedly worked on macOS 13 before upgrading to macOS 15
What steps can reproduce the bug?
Steps to reproduce:
- Use an Intel Mac running macOS 15.7.7.
- Install Codex CLI 0.142.5, or downgrade to 0.142.0. Both versions reproduce the issue.
- Start Codex CLI from Terminal or Termius:
codex
- Select or configure the model as gpt-5.5.
- In any directory, including an empty test directory, enter a prompt that requires local tool / skills execution, for example:
Analyze the files in the current directory.
- Codex enters the “Working” state for a few seconds.
- The CLI process crashes with a trace trap, for example:
trace trap codexskills
or:
trace trap codex
Control checks:
- A simple chat prompt such as “hello” works normally.
- Switching the model from gpt-5.5 to gpt-5.4 makes the same local directory-analysis prompt work normally.
- The issue reproduces in both macOS Terminal and Termius.
- The issue reproduces even after resetting ~/.codex.
- The issue reproduces in an empty directory, so it does not appear to be project-specific.
- gpt-5.5 works normally in the Codex desktop app on the same machine.
- The same machine reportedly worked normally with gpt-5.5 + Codex CLI before upgrading from macOS 13 to macOS 15.
