having difficulties connecting account sign in to HPC (claude code worked fine)

What version of Codex is running?

codex-cli 0.29.0

Which model were you using?

gpt-5

What platform is your computer?

HPC linux (cluster)

What steps can reproduce the bug?

when the signin link is copied to a webpage, it is showing:

This site can’t be reached
localhost refused to connect.
Try:

Checking the connection
[Checking the proxy and the firewall](chrome-error://chromewebdata/#buttons)
ERR_CONNECTION_REFUSED

The sign in procedure was ok on both my mac and windows, but not this linux node.
The codex installation location is the remote cluster, while the actual sign in webpage is on my PC, which might be the problem, but claude code did not have this issue.

What is the expected behavior?

Should be able to connect without issue.

What do you see instead?
