What version of the Codex App are you using (From “About Codex” dialog)?

Version 26.623.141536

What subscription do you have?

Pro

What platform is your computer?

Windows

What issue are you seeing?

I used one of my resets and it did not apply and my reset counter dropped from 2 to 1, I did not hit the reset button again worrying that i would loose that reset too. I value my resets because my project depends on it. Can you give the reset back please. and also fix the error because time is running outttttt. Love codex though hehe

What steps can reproduce the bug?

just hit the use reset option

What is the expected behavior?

failed reset or the reset being not applied

Additional information

The usage meter has been buggy since 12 hrs ago for me

I'm experiencing the exact same issue.

Subscription: ChatGPT Plus
Platform: Windows (ChatGPT desktop app)
App version: 26.630.12135

I had 3 resets available. I redeemed 1 reset on July 8, the reset
counter dropped (3 -> 2), but my usage limit did not change/refresh
at all after that.

Current state in the app:

  • 5 hour usage limit: 99% left, resets 8:39 AM
  • Weekly usage limit: 0% left, resets Jul 14

So the weekly limit is completely exhausted (0%) even though I
redeemed a reset specifically to restore it. The reset was consumed
(counter went from 3 to 2) but had zero effect on the weekly limit.

I tried logging out and back in / re-authenticating, and nothing
changed.

The remaining 2 resets are now unused because I don't want to lose
them the same way. Can OpenAI restore the wasted reset, and confirm
a fix timeline? This looks like the same duplicate-pattern bug as
#31601, #31575, #31532, #31450.

Same problem here. I went from 3 resets to 2 resets. Yet still at 0%.

ss-1996-source · 11 days ago

Same here. I had 4 resets total. Used 1 around a week ago, worked seamlessly. Used 1 today, didn't work and reset got used up as well (went from 3 to 2).

fbernklau · 11 days ago

Same issues, I hit 0 % 5-hour and weekly, so I used a reset.
The reset was consumed and the counter went from 3 to 2, but it did not reset the limits and still shows I am out of Codex messages.

setiawans · 11 days ago

Same issue here, wasted 1 of my reset cause of this bug :)

aeslami · 11 days ago

Same here

motou · 11 days ago

same here, after clicking reset nothing happened and the limit is still shown

ha7ilm · 11 days ago

Same here, on the Codex CLI. After resetting via the /usage command, nothing happened, and the limit is still shown.

AviVolah · 11 days ago

i had the same thing ~50 minutes ago.

While working near the 5h window, I received a pop-up offering a usage reset. I clicked it, and the UI confirmed the reset was successful and showed zero resets remaining. However, my usage did not actually reset; instead, I was immediately blocked by the "out of messages" screen asking me to upgrade or add credits. The reset was consumed, but I remain blocked from using the app.

thefourcraft · 11 days ago

Not again. 😩

JshGrn · 11 days ago

+1 Just had this happen on CLI, reset using /usage, no longer showing, did not reset.

GImDX · 11 days ago

Same issue here.

This is not normal rate-limit behavior. I had 2 resets, used one, and the counter dropped to 1, but the reset was not reliably applied.

My /status output is basically traveling between Terra and Luna: the same account and same CLI version alternates between 0% weekly remaining, 99% weekly remaining, and then back to 0% again. The Codex cloud usage page shows the same contradiction: sometimes “Usage limit reached” at 0%, sometimes 99% remaining.

This is not explained by the 2x promotion ending, plan limits, or credits. A banked reset was consumed, while the quota state became internally inconsistent across CLI and cloud usage.

The global reset OpenAI appears to have issued today may temporarily mask the problem, but it does not fix the actual bug: user-triggered resets can be consumed without reliably restoring the quota bucket.

Please do not close this as “working as intended” or “rate limit reached”. The bug is that reset consumption and quota application are out of sync. This needs server-side investigation of the reset redemption event and quota bucket state.

zikajk · 10 days ago

I just wasted two resets, usage jumps between 0% and 100% :-(

Edit: Just one is wasted, the second one has been applied and usage is consistent now.

Mhitas · 10 days ago

Wasted 2 resets... 0% left for the next few ours and weekly not reset at all which is pretty worrisome. Interestingly have 4 tabs running in sol ultra different worktrees and goals and those keep going. the limit alert only seems to pop in chats that finished a goal when i try to send a new message and follow up

PS: just noticed /status shows my account as "Plus" however i actually have a "Pro" account... what a mess

JshGrn · 10 days ago

I dont want to use my other resets in case they get consumed without redemption...

fortunatebooks · 10 days ago

Same issue today on MacOS with the ChatGPT/Codex app. Reset was applied, a little bar refilled to 100%... but then a moment later it was back down to 0%.
The reset was consumed (from 3 down to 2) but no reset ocurred.

In /status in the CLI I am listed as having a "Plus" account instead of "Pro".
Usage was declining at a VERY RAPID RATE as well (as if it was consuming a 'plus' level quota?) Three active threads used 100% of the 5-hour quota in approximately 10 minutes.

Codex reports having used 498.3k tokens today, over the course of 3 x 5-hour windows. (4 windows if one includes the failed reset.) In contrast, 519 million tokens were used yesterday over 4 x 5-hour windows.

Codex has an "upgrade to Pro" link -- I already have Pro.

ronger4 · 10 days ago

Same for me.
I got the message saying that 3% left, at that point I did a reset but nothing happened and reset was used. Next thing I got a message saying I'm out of tokens.

MaxTheTurtle0 · 10 days ago

I experienced the same issue today in the ChatGPT app for macOS. The animation inside the modal showed the usage resetting to 100%, but after closing it, the app still displayed 0% remaining for the five-hour window and 30% for the weekly limit.

The usage page showed the same unchanged limits, so the resets do not appear to have been applied. I used two of my reset allowances trying to fix this, which is quite frustrating.

I am on a ChatGPT Plus subscription.

mrzubairk · 10 days ago

The same thing happened to me. I reset the ChatGPT app on Windows. It applied temporarily but then it went back and wasted 1 reset.

djnugent · 10 days ago

Same issue for me. 2 resets wasted.

ApaDoctor · 10 days ago

Same issue for me. Wasted first usage reset. However, upgrading the codex and trying again helped.

mahiatlinux · 10 days ago

Same exact issue, here. Reset wasted. I would hope for reimbursements.

ericshenekel · 9 days ago

Same exact issue, here. Reset wasted. I would hope for reimbursements.

joecklau · 9 days ago

Same issue!
I just clicked to use a banked reset. When I click, the codex UI have UI effect seems resetting both weekly+5h limit to 100%.
However, when I try sending any prompt, limits back to 0 while reset is gone!

houmie · 9 days ago

Same issue here. I had 3 resets. Applied it when it ran out of tokens while the task was running. It worked briefly but then afterwards it went back to 0%.

I restarted the app afterwards, now it is saying a new reset was granted to me, but when I checked, it wasn't true. I still see 2 resets and usage is at 0%. I'm afraid using any further resets and losing them too.

Notobia · 9 days ago

Same here

phrenciuc · 9 days ago

Same here. Used 1 reset because the 5hr limit was reached and I have one reset expiring tomorrow. After reset it shortly showed usage back to 0% (so looked like it worked), but after one request, it was back to values before reset. Exited app, restarted it, usage shows as if reset worked. One prompt and back to pre-reset values.

wonbi92 · 9 days ago

Same issue here.

odyslam · 9 days ago

Same

Magiciangel · 9 days ago

same here, donno what to do now. I'm afraid to use the second reset.

Riki1312 · 9 days ago

same

I just used one of my usage reset, the usage limits from the codex app are show as full now but the codex CLI still show the exhausted limits, and when I prompt it gives me the usual message:

You've hit your usage limit. Visit ...

also if I refresh from https://chatgpt.com/codex/settings/usage, sometimes I see 100%, most of the time I see 0%

it seems like my reset it's not working

intexteel · 9 days ago

I'm curious - has anyone been able to successfully use a reset after having this bug?
Is it even worth trying or am I going to lose another reset?

gigatardos · 9 days ago

Same thing just happened to me. 2 resets burned for nothing.

hboon · 9 days ago

I used a reset in the Codex cli macOS an hour earlier, and it didn't seem to have any effect.

rahildar · 8 days ago

Wasted a Reset –
The reason I fell for it was because even when my 5h and weekly usage was 0 - It continued to do the work for quite some time on sol ultra high – when I used the reset - it immediately went from 100 to 0 – I thought may be I have used all the limits and did the reset again with another loss

phrenciuc · 8 days ago

Additionally: don't know if I imagine it, but I doubt it since I use Codex for a while and played a lot in the last days with latest 5.6 models. After the "reset" the 5h session and weekly limits are burning through usage at lightning speed. Where before I had multiple parallel sessions and was unable to reach 5h limit, now a single session (same as before reset, just resumed), reaches 5h limit in 1h max. A single session. Same as before the reset.
It is like the reset actually reseted the account to Plus ( I am on Pro 20x!!)... So something changed, but not the usage.

dfanz0r · 6 days ago

I just had this occur myself using codex cli..... @tibo-openai any fixes for this seemingly often recurring issue.

Using my last banked reset did work. but i still lost one in the process which SUCKS.

joecklau · 6 days ago
Same issue! I just clicked to use a banked reset. When I click, the codex UI have UI effect seems resetting both weekly+5h limit to 100%. However, when I try sending any prompt, limits back to 0 while reset is gone!

Just tried to use a reset on the latest version ChatGPT desktop app again today, this time it works!

axAilotl · 5 days ago

Same issue scared to push it again.

RichardCr · 5 days ago

Same issue. Went from 1 to 0. Now I have no credit.

Same bug. Version 26.715.21425
Released Jul 17, 2026

AlxTx · 3 days ago

Same thing happen yesterday, and I lost my 2 on 3 reset

almokinsgov · 3 days ago

Had this happen to me, however after restarting Codex the weekly counter went to 100%.

axAilotl · 3 days ago

iteventually updated like 4 hours later lol

fbernklau · 1 day ago

If it happens again, try restarting Codex before applying a second reset.
I used a reset today, it showed the animation, then went back down to 0 %, but after closing Codex completely and starting it again it correctly showed 100 %.

phrenciuc · 20 hours ago

It happened again to me today. Reset, animation shown, but no actual reset. Tried to restart the app, logged out and in again, no change, still at 0%. This happened after my entire quota went from 100% to 0% in one day with light to moderate work, so I guess something is fishy with the usage counters also... Never had this kind of usage before, usually I ended up the week at 20% while doing really heavy work. Something changed.

Edit: It eventually reset after 30 mins, so the issue is probably the resets are queued and the queue is sometimes long, sometimes short. I guess the real issue is a UX one, since the user doesn't know that and he might think reset failed. I am curious out of everyone here that had the issue, how many actually received the reset later. Usually people report an issue, but if the reset eventually happened they dont come back to report this too...

@tibo-openai, any chance you can look at this please?
