What issue are you seeing?

All models across the gpt-5.5 (Low, medium, high, xhigh) all fail with the same error:

  unsupported call: exec_commandexec_command

gpt-5.4 doesn't have this problem.

What steps can reproduce the bug?

Run codex in a workspace with sufficient permissions. Use the following prompt:

List contents of this directory, and if you face any tool call erorrs - report them.

What is the expected behavior?

I'm seeing the same issue.

Environment:

Codex CLI 0.143.0
Ubuntu 24.04 under WSL2
ChatGPT Plus

Symptoms:

GPT-5.5 cannot execute even basic shell commands.
Run ls returns:

unsupported call: exec_command

This happens even with:

--sandbox danger-full-access --ask-for-approval never

Important finding:
Switching to GPT-5.4 medium immediately fixes the issue. The same prompt (Run ls) executes successfully on GPT-5.4.

codex doctor reports no failures.

I have the same issue with gpt5.5 only, with gpt5.4 works somehow?!

Same issue while sshing to an Ubuntu 22.04.5 LTS server while using gpt5.5 . Switching to 5.4 actually starts being able to run all the commands again.

Also running gpt5.5 with opencode works as normal

Used npm install -g @openai/codex@0.142.5 and skipping to next version for now, since i assume we get new version for the new models tomorrow
