macOS Remote Control stuck in "connection is errored"; iPhone reports "This QR code is not a Codex pairing code"

What version of the Codex App are you using (From “About Codex” dialog)?

Codex Desktop: 26.602.30954

What subscription do you have?

What platform is your computer?

macOS 26.5.1

What issue are you seeing?

  1. Remote Control registration failure codex remote-control always reports:

Error: Remote control is enabled on MacBook-Pro-319 but the connection is errored.

  1. Misleading iPhone error
  • The Camera app recognizes the QR code as a ChatGPT deep link.
  • The ChatGPT app rejects it with:
  • "This QR code is not a Codex pairing code."
  • That message appears inconsistent with the desktop's errored remote-control state.

What steps can reproduce the bug?

  1. Enable Connections / Remote Control.
  2. Generate pairing QR.
  3. Scan with ChatGPT iOS.
  4. ChatGPT on iOS reports:
  • This QR code is not a Codex pairing code.
  1. Running:
  • /Applications/Codex.app/Contents/Resources/codex remote-control

Reports:

  • Error: Remote control is enabled on MacBook-Pro-319 but the connection is errored.

What is the expected behavior?

Connecting iPhone ChatGPT app to desktop Codex app.

Additional information

  • Camera app recognizes the QR as "Open in ChatGPT."
  • Signing out/in and regenerating QR codes does not resolve the issue.
  • No codex remote-control process remains running.
