Ran into the same - based on the "potential duplicates" seems like this is a multi-platform bug affecting a large number of users.

I had ChatGPT desktop app and Codex app both installed. Removed both and installed the new unified ChatGPT + Codex app - chose the Codex logo.
MacOS 2026-07-09 version, Version 26.707.31428
Sidebar has the Work/Codex switcher, New task, Scheduled, Plugins, Sites, Chat, Projects (Codex), Tasks

• Chat shows me my history of chatgpt chats - but not projects/pinned

After a brief panic attack, I realized I am still able to see my Pinned, Projects, and Chats in the web browser version. Immediately started an "Export all my data".

Expected: Desktop App lists Codex Projects separately from ChatGPT Projects.

I have a very similar issue on Desktop 26.707.31428 (macOS).
In my case, it is not only Projects that are missing.
The desktop application only shows Work and Codex.
There is no Personal workspace at all, so I cannot access:
Personal chat history
Personal Projects
Everything is still available on chatgpt.com with the same account.

I can confirm that I am experiencing the same issue on macOS.

Additional observations from my testing:

• ChatGPT Work version: 1.2026.183 (1783607847)
• ChatGPT Plus
• All ChatGPT Projects are visible on chatgpt.com.
• All ChatGPT Projects are visible in ChatGPT Classic.
• All project chats are available in ChatGPT Work under Chat History.
• Only the Projects view is empty.

I initially thought my projects had been deleted.

To verify this, I restored ChatGPT Classic from Time Machine. After signing in with the same account, all projects immediately reappeared.

This strongly suggests that the project data still exists and that the issue is limited to how ChatGPT Work displays existing ChatGPT Projects.

Same Problem. No solution.

Confirming I'm seeing this on:

Additional observations:

Browser shows all Projects correctly.
Desktop Recent Chats popup shows my conversations.
Existing conversations open normally.
New conversations sync immediately with the browser.
The desktop app downloaded local project- and conversation- data.
Renaming/rebuilding ~/Library/Application Support/com.openai.chat did not resolve the issue.

I also confirmed the following:

The desktop app downloads local project-g- folders and conversation- folders under ~/Library/Application Support/com.openai.chat.
Opening chats from the Recent Chats popup loads the full conversation correctly.
New messages created in the desktop app appear immediately in the web app.

This suggests the data sync is working and the issue appears isolated to the sidebar/project navigation UI.

I can confirm I'm seeing the same issue on the latest version.

Additional observations

• Existing ChatGPT Projects are visible in the web version of ChatGPT.
• Existing ChatGPT Projects are visible in the iOS app.
• The macOS desktop app shows only the new ChatGPT Work/Codex interface.
• Existing ChatGPT Projects are completely missing.
• Conversations that belong to those Projects still appear individually in History.

New conversations sync correctly.

This suggests conversation synchronization is working, but the desktop app is not displaying or synchronizing the ChatGPT Project containers.

Same issue confirmed by the support who went silent after I bought them print screens. 2 upgrades to the desktop app followed since, and none really solved the issue. OpenAI should have learned from the mistake Antigravity did with its migration from v1.x to v2.x, yet it seems they were too busy building stuff, from learning from them not to mess with their users experience, confuse them, and make fun of their time and investment... Yes we all know we can use the old app, but to make this merge without properly migrating existing projects in ChatGPT, to CHATpgt Work side of the app, is a bad move, and a poor decision in the OpenAI development team!

This makes the desktop app completely worthless until resolved.

Same class of issue on Windows 10 here. Adding another data point:

• Windows 10, ChatGPT Plus account
• Cloud ChatGPT Projects visible on chatgpt.com
• After the ChatGPT/Codex merge, the "Projects" navigation item in the sidebar (folder icon, between "Library" and "Scheduled" in the classic ChatGPT layout) is entirely absent
• The merged app only shows "Chat" and "Work" in the sidebar toggle — no Projects section
• Local Codex folder projects are visible, cloud Projects are not surfaced anywhere in the sidebar
• Searching for a chat inside a cloud project finds and opens it correctly, confirming the data is synced — just the sidebar rendering is missing

This feels like the new sidebar only implements the "Chat" and "Codex" navigation views without porting over the "Projects" section from the ChatGPT Classic sidebar. Since projects are a first-class organizational primitive in the web app, this is a significant workflow gap for anyone who uses Projects to organize their chats.

Confirming this is still reproducible on a newer macOS build:

• macOS 26.5.2 (25F84), Apple Silicon
• ChatGPT/Codex Desktop 26.721.81911 (build 5973)
• Observed 2026-07-29

Additional diagnostic evidence:

• The desktop app's project inventory returns the existing ChatGPT Project, so the project record still exists.
• The Projects section in the sidebar omits that project, while its chats remain accessible through Recents.
• One existing Codex task is correctly associated with the ChatGPT Project ID and is accessible in Recents, yet the project container is still not rendered in the sidebar.
• A second task launched from the same project workspace displays the project name in the UI and uses that project's workspace path, but its task metadata reports no project association. This creates a split-brain state: the visible project label/workspace is correct, while the sidebar project link is missing.
• Unpinning a task in the UI did not immediately update the stored pin state. Reapplying the same unpin through the app interface synchronized the task into Recents, but the missing Project still did not reappear.
• No task or project data loss was found.

Expected behavior:

1. The sidebar should render the same project inventory the app can already resolve internally.
2. A task created from a ChatGPT Project workspace should persist the Project association, not only the workspace path/label.
3. Pinning or unpinning a task should not change whether its parent Project is discoverable.

Project names, task titles, local paths, and IDs are omitted for privacy. Redacted diagnostics can be provided privately if useful.

Adding another macOS Desktop data point, and I think this issue is part of a broader problem with the current ChatGPT/Codex switcher and sidebar model.

The confusing part is not only that existing ChatGPT Projects are missing from the Desktop sidebar. The current mode switcher creates a fragmented history model:

• When I use the ChatGPT side inside the Desktop app, new ChatGPT-style chats appear in the Desktop sidebar.
• Those chats are shown in a UI that is also carrying Codex task/project concepts, so the ownership of the conversation is unclear.
• Existing ChatGPT web history/projects are not fully represented there, so it is not a complete ChatGPT sidebar either.
• When I switch back to Codex, those ChatGPT-mode chats disappear from the sidebar again.

From a user perspective this is very hard to reason about. It is not clearly “ChatGPT web history in Desktop”, and it is not clearly “Codex local task history” either. It feels like multiple partially-overlapping histories are being filtered by a product switcher whose rules are not visible.

Expected behavior:

• ChatGPT mode should expose the same useful ChatGPT history/projects organization as chatgpt.com, including Projects and pinned/organized conversations.
• Codex mode should expose local Codex tasks/projects separately.
• The switcher should make the boundary explicit, or users should be able to hide it and keep a focused Codex app.

Right now the unified app looks unified, but the sidebar/history model is not actually unified. That mismatch is the core usability problem.

I'm seeing the same issue as @mictub

In ChatGPT.com on the web browser I see the following pinned projects.

In ChatGPT desktop where I'm running today's brand new version for MacOSX (26.818.61809 released on 24th August 2026) I see:

• 2x pinned Codex projects (Cloudoko Platform + Cloudoko AI Panel Show)
• But equally I'm missing 2x of my ChatGPT pinned projects from the website (Cloudoko + Yorkshire Water)

The issue seems to be caused by having chats that have been spun off of Codex tasks that I've moved to be parented by those missing projects in ChatGPT.com

Another side effect in ChatGPT Desktop for Mac OSX is that as well as not appearing in the Pinned section, they're also missing from the Projects section beneath - so they're entirely invisible to the entire desktop app. This is frustrating because it means I have to keep using chatgpt.com to see all of my projects.
