Additional diagnostics from another affected Windows machine:

  • Installed package: OpenAI.Codex 26.721.4979.0
  • Internal app build found in the packaged renderer: 26.721.41059
  • OS: Windows 11 Pro x64, build 26200
  • GPU: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1070, driver 581.42
  • Display setup: three active monitors, 125% renderer scale, primary mode reported at 2560x1440 / 75 Hz
  • The issue reproduces immediately after a fresh Microsoft Store installation.
  • It persists when launching ChatGPT.exe with --disable-gpu.
  • The diagnostic launch correctly switched the Chromium GPU process to D3D11 WARP software rendering (d3d11-warp-webgl), but the flickering remained unchanged.
  • No related Application Error, Application Hang, display-driver reset, DWM, or nvlddmkm event was recorded.
  • No Crashpad report was generated; renderer processes remain alive.
  • Codex authentication is valid: codex login status reports Logged in using ChatGPT.
  • WinGet reports that no newer Microsoft Store package is available.

Control comparison: a second Windows 11 machine with the same OS build and the exact same OpenAI.Codex package version is stable. That machine uses a GTX 1650 and an already-established app profile. This makes a simple package-version or Windows-build-only explanation unlikely. It may involve a fresh-profile/authentication/render-state loop or another machine-specific trigger, but GPU acceleration itself is not required for the issue.
