[Windows][ChatGPT Desktop] Cloud ChatGPT projects are missing from the Projects view

System: Windows
Application: New ChatGPT app, formerly Codex
Version: [version number to be confirmed]
Account/workspace: Identical on the web and desktop apps

Observed behavior:

  • Local Codex projects are visible.
  • ChatGPT conversations are visible in Quick Chat.
  • Cloud ChatGPT projects that are visible on chatgpt.com are not displayed.
  • The Chat panel only shows a linear conversation history.

Expected behavior:

  • ChatGPT projects and local projects should be displayed together,

in accordance with the “Projects, chats, and tasks” documentation.

What steps can reproduce the bug?

  1. Open the new ChatGPT desktop application on Windows, formerly the Codex app.
  1. Sign in with the same OpenAI account and workspace used on chatgpt.com.
  1. Confirm on chatgpt.com that several cloud ChatGPT projects are visible in the left sidebar.
  1. Return to the ChatGPT desktop application.
  1. Check the Projects section in the left sidebar.
  1. Confirm that local Codex projects connected to folders on the computer are displayed.
  1. Click “Chat” in the left sidebar.
  1. Confirm that regular ChatGPT conversations are visible in the Quick Chat history.
  1. Check whether the cloud ChatGPT projects visible on chatgpt.com are displayed anywhere in the desktop application.

Actual result:
The desktop application displays local Codex projects and regular ChatGPT conversations, but the cloud ChatGPT projects are missing.

Expected result:
The Projects view should display both ChatGPT cloud projects and local projects connected to folders on the computer, as described in the “Projects, chats, and tasks” documentation.

What is the expected behavior?

Additional information

The Projects view in the ChatGPT desktop application should display both:

  • ChatGPT cloud projects associated with the signed-in account and workspace; and
  • Local projects connected to folders on the computer.

The cloud projects shown on chatgpt.com should therefore also appear in the desktop application, alongside the existing local Codex projects, in accordance with the “Projects, chats, and tasks” documentation.

Same issue on Windows 10 here. Confirming the exact behavior:

  • ChatGPT Projects exist and are fully accessible on chatgpt.com (web)
  • After the ChatGPT/Codex merge, the entire "Projects" navigation section is missing from the desktop sidebar
  • The ChatGPT Classic app had a dedicated "Projects" menu item (folder icon) in the left sidebar — this is completely gone in the merged app
  • Local Codex projects (folder-bound) show up fine, but cloud ChatGPT Projects are absent
  • Chats belonging to those projects are searchable and open fine — they just can't be navigated via the sidebar

Key observation from comparing the two apps: the merged desktop app seems to only surface the "Chat" and "Work" panels, but drops the "Projects" navigation section that was present in the ChatGPT Classic sidebar. The Projects view should show both cloud ChatGPT Projects AND local Codex projects side by side, matching the web experience.
