Custom Personal/Work spaces and privacy mode for Codex Desktop on Windows
What variant of Codex are you using?
Codex Desktop App for Windows
What feature would you like to see?
Summary
Please add customizable spaces, folders, or groups to the Codex Desktop App on Windows, with a privacy/presentation mode that can show only the active space.
Problem
I use Codex for both personal and professional work. Today, projects, tasks, and conversation titles share the same sidebar context. This creates two related problems:
- Personal organization: as the number of projects grows, the flat sidebar becomes visually noisy and it takes longer to find the right project or conversation.
- Privacy and confidentiality: during company meetings, presentations, or screen sharing, personal project and conversation titles may be exposed. The reverse can also happen with company or client work in a personal context.
Proposed solution
Allow users to create custom spaces such as:
- Personal
- Company
- Client A
- Client B
- Studies
- Experiments
Projects and conversations should be assignable or movable to a space without losing history.
Suggested capabilities:
- Create, rename, reorder, and remove spaces;
- Assign or move projects and conversations to a space;
- Collapse, hide, or temporarily disable selected spaces;
- Switch spaces without showing items from other spaces;
- Enable a privacy/presentation mode that displays only the active space;
- Optionally assign colors, icons, or labels to spaces;
- Remember the last active space between sessions.
Example
Before sharing my screen in a company meeting, I select the "Company" space and enable presentation mode. Codex then shows only company projects and conversations. Personal work and other clients are completely hidden until I leave presentation mode or switch spaces.
Acceptance criteria
- Users can create and manage custom spaces;
- Existing projects and conversations can be moved without losing history;
- Selecting a space can hide all items belonging to other spaces;
- Presentation mode exposes only the active space;
- The organization remains local and available after restarting the app.
This would significantly improve personal organization, navigation, privacy, and safe screen sharing.
