FR: a ChatGPT client as a new product
What feature would you like to see?
Codex in VS Code works very well, long sessions are possible without the limitations of various browsers.
In contrast ChatGPT in the browser becomes very slow with long chats, tabs crash. It's not very pleasant or useful to work with. But context is important and in longer sessions/chats the responses become progressively better, because the model in that chat has been trained to make less mistakes and consider real data over example outputs etc.
There are ChatGPT clients for Windows and MacOS, but none for Linux.
But many developers use Linux.
Solution: Create a ChatGPT extension.
I use ChatGPT a lot for managing my Kubernetes cluster.
Using the usage limited codex-cli/vsc ext is not an option.
And there many yaml files are generated. How awesome would it be, imagine a Kubernetes specialized VS Code extension, ideally with the ability to read and write files in the current project?
But if not that, just a ChatGPT client would immensely increase productivity.
I tried alternatives.
- Windows 11 in a VM
Requires a Microsoft account, which I don't want to provide. It's a Store app that can't be emulated using Wine (correct me if I'm wrong)
- Waydroid
I'm using xorg and Wayland doesn't work that well with my NV5080, in short it's not working
- Webview wrapping a browser
Not a solution
A ChatGPT VSC Extension would mean unifying the ChatGPT client codebase.
No more Windows Desktop version and separate MacOS Desktop version and no Linux version.
1 VS Code Extension for all platforms.
Are you interested in implementing this feature?
I have my hands full
Additional information
There is no way to send in feedback. The developer community says it's out of context.
Working on Linux with ChatGPT in a browser is a terrible experience.
