Regression: ChatGPT Record button disappeared after migration to the new ChatGPT/Codex macOS app
What version of the Codex App are you using (From “About Codex” dialog)?
Version 26.707.51957
What subscription do you have?
Plus
What platform is your computer?
macOS, macOS 27 beta 3
What issue are you seeing?
After migrating from the previous ChatGPT for macOS app to the new unified ChatGPT/Codex app, the ChatGPT Record button is no longer available.
This feature was used to record meetings, automatically transcribe them, and generate meeting minutes directly in ChatGPT.
According to the current Help Center documentation, ChatGPT Record should still be available in the macOS desktop app for eligible Plus/Pro users, but it no longer appears in the UI. OpenAI Help Center
What steps can reproduce the bug?
Install/update to the new ChatGPT/Codex macOS app.
Sign in with the same Plus account.
Open a new chat.
Observe that the Record button is missing.
What is the expected behavior?
Expected behavior
The Record button should be available as in the previous ChatGPT macOS application, allowing meeting recording and automatic transcription.
Actual behavior
The Record button is missing and there is no obvious way to start a meeting recording.
Additional information
This appears to be a regression introduced during the transition from the previous ChatGPT desktop app to the new unified ChatGPT/Codex app.
For reference, I previously reported this issue through the in-app feedback system.

The previous ChatGPT macOS app has been replaced by the new Codex desktop app. As a result, users can no longer fall back to the former app to access ChatGPT Record. The migration therefore removes an existing ChatGPT Plus feature without providing an alternative in the new app.

i have the mic (and working :) ), but only when i open the app, then as soon i change conversation it's erased, clearly a bug
Update after installing and restarting the latest version:
ChatGPT – Powered by Codex & OWL
Version 26.715.31925
Released Jul 18, 2026
The issue is still reproducible. Only the standard audio/microphone control is available in the message composer. The separate ChatGPT Record control for recording meetings, generating transcripts, and creating meeting notes is still missing.

if a click on a new conversation it just vanish
Same issue here. I need the "record" feature badly. Why did they remove it with this new version? All my chat history are gone too 😡
yes ... The issue is still reproducible. Only the standard microphone control for voice input is available; the separate ChatGPT Record control for meeting recording, transcription, and meeting notes is still missing.
The official Help Center continues to list ChatGPT Record as available to Plus users in the macOS desktop app:
https://help.openai.com/en/articles/11487532-chatgpt-record**
Several users have now independently confirmed the missing feature.
I found a way to go back to the former chatgpt version "classic" with the record feature, following this official download link: https://persistent.oaistatic.com/classic/public/ChatGPT_Classic.dmg
Thanks — this is a useful workaround.
OpenAI has now also updated the official documentation to confirm that the previous macOS app has been renamed ChatGPT Classic, remains supported, and can continue to be used:
https://help.openai.com/en/articles/9703738-desktop-app-release-notes
This provides a temporary workaround for users who need ChatGPT Record. However, the original issue remains: Record is still missing from the new unified ChatGPT/Codex desktop app, although the Record documentation continues to describe it as available in the macOS desktop app.
Confirmed: after installing ChatGPT Classic 1.2026.184 on the same Mac and signing in with the same Plus account, the separate Record button is immediately available again.
This rules out account eligibility and macOS microphone permissions as the cause. The Record feature is present in ChatGPT Classic but missing specifically from the new unified ChatGPT/Codex app version 26.715.31925.
The direct Classic installer currently provides a working workaround:
