Codex Diff window doesn't open

What issue are you seeing?

The diff is always blank and never opens. I can only see the Codex icon. Clicking on it yields nothing.

What steps can reproduce the bug?

The bug is explained above. I am not aware of any specific reproduction steps. It used to work before.

What is the expected behavior?

The Diff window should correctly display the edited files.

Not only a Diff doesn't open today but I literally cannot get to the chat. It is stuck like this

and no matter what I do, the chat doesn't show.

@openai some attention here please? The VSCode extension is unusable and this issue has been ignored for 2 weeks now.

Additional confirmed regression from Windows/VS Code:

  • Codex Diff stopped displaying changes in a workspace that is not a Git repository.
  • This previously worked correctly without Git; the extension tracked and displayed files changed during the Codex conversation.
  • The newer extension build showed no usable Codex Diff.
  • Downgrading the Codex extension to 26.715.61943 restored the diff immediately.
  • A new Codex conversation after the downgrade was able to display the changed files again.

Expected behavior: Codex Diff should continue showing Codex-generated file changes without requiring the workspace to be initialized as a Git repository.

This strongly suggests a regression introduced after 26.715.61943.
