What version of the Codex App are you using (From “About Codex” dialog)?

Latest Microsoft Store Windows ChatGPT desktop app (version unknown)

What subscription do you have?

ChatGPT Team

What platform is your computer?

Windows 11

What issue are you seeing?

After updating to the latest Windows ChatGPT desktop app, the application has become significantly less usable.

The previous desktop app permanently displayed recent conversations in the left sidebar and opened chats in the main window.

The new “ChatGPT Work” interface hides recent conversations, opens chats in small floating windows, prioritises Tasks and Projects over conversations, and requires significantly more clicks to switch between active chats.

I use ChatGPT all day to run my business across dozens of conversations. This update has made the application much slower and less efficient to use.

Please restore the previous desktop interface or provide a “Classic Chat” mode with a permanent Recent Chats sidebar and full-window conversations.

  1. Install or update to the latest Windows ChatGPT desktop app.
  2. Open the application.
  3. Attempt to switch between recent conversations.
  4. Observe that recent chats are hidden, conversations open as floating windows, and the previous desktop workflow is no longer available.

What steps can reproduce the bug?

What is the expected behavior?

The Windows ChatGPT desktop app should behave like the previous desktop application.

  • Recent conversations should be permanently visible in the left sidebar.
  • Conversations should open in the main window, not as floating cards.
  • Switching between active conversations should require a single click.
  • The application should prioritise conversations over Tasks and Projects for users who primarily use ChatGPT as a conversational workspace.
  • Users should have the option to keep or restore the previous desktop interface.

Additional information

This change has significantly reduced productivity for professional users who manage many concurrent conversations throughout the day.

The previous interface was faster, clearer and more efficient. The new interface feels designed for a different workflow and removes core functionality that many users relied upon.

Please consider restoring the previous interface or providing a “Classic Chat” mode. I have attached screenshots showing the current behaviour.
