What issue are you seeing?
I was previously using the standalone Codex desktop application.
When Codex was merged into the new ChatGPT desktop application last week, all of my existing Codex projects and conversations migrated successfully. Everything worked normally for several days, and all of my previous projects were visible and accessible.
Today I updated ChatGPT Desktop to Version 26.707.72221 (Released July 14, 2026). Immediately after the update, all of my Codex projects and conversation history disappeared from the application.
I am signed into the same OpenAI account that I have always used. Logging out and back in did not resolve the issue.
The application does not show any of my previous Codex projects even though they were available before today's update.
I verified that my local Codex data still exists. The folder:
%USERPROFILE%\.codex
still contains approximately 2 GB of data, including SQLite databases and session files.
I also inspected the local database (state_5.sqlite) and confirmed that it still contains my previous thread metadata (approximately 24 historical threads), including projects.
This indicates that the local data has not been deleted. It appears that ChatGPT Desktop Version 26.707.72221 is no longer reading or displaying the existing local Codex state after the update.
Troubleshooting already attempted:
- Restarted the application.
- Logged out and logged back into the same account.
- Confirmed the .codex directory and SQLite databases still exist.
Expected behavior:
All previously migrated Codex projects and conversations should continue to appear after updating the desktop application.
Actual behavior:
All Codex projects and conversations disappeared after updating to Version 26.707.72221, despite the local data still existing.
