What issue are you seeing?
Codex desktop app on Windows is causing high CPU and severe device heating after launch.
Version/path observed:
OpenAI.Codex_26.707.3748.0_x64__2p2nqsd0c76g0
Only Codex is open; no other large workload is running. The machine becomes very hot shortly after launching Codex.
Process evidence:
ChatGPT.exe CPU accumulated 109.765625
codex.exe CPU accumulated 19.734375
Multiple msedgewebview2.exe processes are also active under Edge WebView2 148.0.3967.70.
This looks like an idle CPU / WebView2 / app shell issue in Codex desktop 26.707.3748.0.
What steps can reproduce the bug?
- Start Windows normally.
- Open only the Codex desktop app.
- Do not run any large local task, build, test, browser automation, or visualization.
- Wait for a short period after launch.
- The computer temperature rises noticeably.
- Process inspection shows Codex-related processes consuming CPU, especially ChatGPT.exe, codex.exe, and several msedgewebview2.exe child processes.
What is the expected behavior?
