Hello OpenAI Support,

All existing Codex chats associated with local projects are intermittently freezing in the ChatGPT macOS app.

Symptoms:

• Opening a project chat sometimes results in an entirely blank conversation pane.
• Active tasks remain stuck on “Working” for many minutes.
• The UI displays “Reconnecting 5/5” and stops progressing.
• Occasionally the conversation resumes after several minutes, but the issue returns when switching between project chats.
• Standalone/non-project chats may continue working while project chats remain stuck.
• The problem affects multiple unrelated projects, not one repository or conversation.

Expected behavior:
Project chats should load promptly, and active turns should stream responses without repeated reconnection failures.

Actual behavior:
Project conversations either remain blank or stop streaming. Sometimes a response arrives after approximately 7–10 minutes.

Environment:

• ChatGPT macOS app version: 26.707.72221
• Bundled Codex CLI: 0.144.2
• macOS: 15.7.7 (Build 24G720)
• Date/time observed: July 15, 2026, approximately 12:10–12:30 AM EDT
• OpenAI Status reported all systems operational at the time.

Network:

• Other websites and applications work normally.
• Speed test: 18.09 Mbps download, 2.35 Mbps upload
• Idle ping: 33 ms
• The issue appears specific to Codex project conversations rather than a complete internet outage.

Troubleshooting already attempted:

1. Fully quit the ChatGPT app using Cmd+Q.
2. Waited and relaunched the app.
3. Opened several different project conversations.
4. Confirmed that the issue persisted after restart.
5. Confirmed that normal internet access continued working.

Relevant log evidence:

• A thread resume request took 447,169 ms (approximately 7 minutes 27 seconds):

• Conversation state synchronization errors:

• Earlier task-start failures:

• The local AppServer reports a successful connected state, so this may be a conversation routing/resume synchronization issue rather than the local process being completely unavailable.
