UI performance degradation on long sessions

What steps can reproduce the bug?

The performance degradation gets worse as the size of the conversation increases. After about an hour in the same chat all UI related features slow down considerably - Thinking animation gets choppy, clicking in the chat input takes a few seconds to remove the placeholder text and move the cursor to the beginning, if I try to type while it's like that it misses keystrokes, and scrolling up the conversation history is a challenge.
VS Code restart and even a computer restart does not fix it.
The only "fix" I've found to work is to open a new chat.
