macOS 26.707.91948: Chat mode missing; GPTs inaccessible; Projects exist on web but not in desktop app

Summary
After updating the ChatGPT macOS app to 26.707.91948 (Released Jul 15, 2026), the desktop app no longer exposes Chat mode or Custom GPTs, and the Projects section is empty, even though everything is present and functioning correctly on chatgpt.com using the same account.
This does not appear to be data loss because all Projects and Custom GPTs are available on the web.

Environment

  • macOS Tahoe 26.5.1
  • ChatGPT for Mac
  • Version 26.707.91948
  • Released Jul 15, 2026
  • ChatGPT Plus
  • Updated from the previous ChatGPT desktop app (not a fresh install)

Expected behavior

  • The desktop app should match the web experience for the same account:
  • Chat mode available
  • Work mode available
  • Projects populated
  • Ability to access Custom GPTs
  • Same navigation/features as chatgpt.com

Actual behavior
The desktop app only exposes:

  • ChatGPT Work
  • Codex

The following are missing or not functioning:

  • Chat mode is completely absent.
  • Projects section is present but empty.
  • No way to access Custom GPTs.
  • Searching the Command Palette (⌘K) for "Chat" does not provide any option to switch to Chat mode.

Comparison with chatgpt.com
Using the same account in the browser:
✅ Chat mode is available.
✅ Work mode is available.
✅ All Projects are present.
✅ All Custom GPTs are available (More → GPTs).
✅ Chat history is intact.
This appears to be a desktop application issue rather than an account synchronization or data-loss issue.

Steps to reproduce

  1. Install/update ChatGPT for macOS to 26.707.91948.
  2. Launch the application.
  3. Observe that only ChatGPT Work and Codex are available.
  4. Observe that the Projects section is empty.
  5. Observe that there is no way to access Custom GPTs.
  6. Log into the same account on chatgpt.com.
  7. Observe that Chat mode, Projects, and Custom GPTs are all present and functioning normally.

Additional observations

  • This behavior persists after updating to the latest version.
  • The issue is reproducible across application restarts.
  • The desktop app reports:Powered by Codex & OWL
  • Version 26.707.91948
  • Released Jul 15, 2026

Happy to test debug builds or provide additional logs if that would help reproduce the issue.
