Split desktop app chat+work/codex tabs into three separate chat/work/codex tabs
Is Codex missing a feature that you'd like to see? Feel free to propose it here.
Before you submit a feature:
- Search existing issues for similar features. If you find one, 👍 it rather than opening a new one.
- The Codex team will try to balance the varying needs of the community when prioritizing or rejecting new features. Not all features will be accepted.
What variant of Codex are you using?
App (Desktop)
What feature would you like to see?
Currently, the desktop app has a combined "chat/work" tab alongside a separate "codex" tab. I'd like to request reorganizing the tab structure to have three separate, independent tabs instead:
- chat tab
- work tab
- codex tab
This is similar to feedback from the Claude desktop app, where users have expressed that combining chat and cowork into a single tab is not ideal. Keeping these features as separate, independent tabs would improve the user experience significantly.
Separating the tabs would:
- Improve clarity and user navigation
- Make each functionality more discoverable
- Reduce cognitive load by having a clearer tab hierarchy
- Allow users to focus on one feature at a time
- Each tab can maintain its own independent state and context
Additional information
The community feedback from Claude's recent integration of chat and cowork shows that users prefer keeping these features separate. Codex should learn from this feedback and maintain three distinct tabs for better usability and user satisfaction.
