using gpt-5-high in some situations where i ask it to run commands, migrations, or things like that, it just freezes, no errors, nothing happens. i left it running for 40 minutes, and i don’t know if that counts against my limit, but nothing was showing in the cli after a while.
What is the expected behavior?
return me something, say it errored, show the error, say it can’t complete the task, or anything other than just freezing

Same. Very frustrating.
I've added in my AGENTS.md to prefix commands with
timeout -s KILL -k 5 60, which helps not getting stuck.Should be backed in imho.

This can happen when the model launches a blocking process which never exits. We're looking into this.
I've been having the same issue on a Python project. Codex will get stuck when running the embedded shell. It seems to be unable to recover from that state, and continue with the next step.
@josusanmartin i feel you, codex was completely useless for me today, really bad, it didn’t freeze but the output quality was insanely poor
I think this issue is no longer relevant, so I'm closing. We've fixed a number of bugs in the past few versions that caused blocking processes to never exit. If you see problems like this with a recent version of codex, please use the
/feedbackslash command to upload the thread and file a new bug report.
