What variant of Codex are you using?

What feature would you like to see?

Summary

I would love to see the Codex Pet evolve from a cosmetic feature into an interactive coding companion.

Motivation

The pet is already a fun addition, but I believe it could become one of Codex's most unique features by growing alongside the developer.

Instead of simply existing, it could react to both the user's activity and the time of day.

Proposed features

  • Greets you with "Good morning" and "Good night."
  • Has moods (happy, sleepy, excited, curious, etc.).
  • Needs occasional food or care, similar to Tamagotchi or Pou.
  • Reacts to coding activity and completed tasks.
  • Celebrates milestones such as merged pull requests, completed tasks, bug fixes, or long coding sessions.
  • Gains experience and levels up over time.
  • Unlocks accessories, cosmetics, or animations.
  • Occasionally sends encouraging messages like:
  • "Nice work!"
  • "Another bug defeated!"
  • "You've been coding for a while—don't forget to take a break."

Why this would be valuable

Many developers spend hours every day using Codex. Having a companion that evolves alongside your coding journey would create a stronger emotional connection with the product while remaining completely optional for users who prefer a minimal interface.

I think this could become one of Codex's signature features and make it stand out from other AI coding assistants.

Additional information

One idea I particularly like is tying the pet's growth to real development activity rather than just time.

For example, completing coding tasks, fixing bugs, writing tests, or successfully merging pull requests could help the pet gain experience and unlock new appearances or animations.

The goal isn't to gamify coding, but to make Codex feel more like a companion that grows with the developer throughout their daily work.
