Remote-created tasks disappear from Android list and Windows ChatGPT Desktop after restart
What version of the Codex App are you using (From “About Codex” dialog)?
Not recorded. Observed on 2026-07-20.
What subscription do you have?
_No response_
What platform is your computer?
Windows 10, using the ChatGPT Desktop App in Codex mode (not Codex CLI).
The task is created from the ChatGPT Android app using Codex Remote, connected to the Windows host.
What issue are you seeing?
Tasks created from the Android ChatGPT app through Codex Remote can disappear from both task lists in a reproducible sequence.
This appears to affect only tasks created from the phone via Remote. Tasks originally created in the Windows ChatGPT Desktop App's Codex mode do not show this behavior.
After the Android task-list refresh, the task is no longer visible on Android. At that point, it is still visible on Windows as New task, and the conversation contents can still be opened. After restarting the Windows computer, the same task also disappears from the Windows Desktop App sidebar.
The conversation content appeared to remain available locally before the restart, which suggests a task-list indexing/synchronization persistence issue rather than a normal archive action or intentional deletion.
What steps can reproduce the bug?
- On an Android phone, open the ChatGPT app and use Codex Remote connected to a Windows 10 host.
- Create and start a new task from the Android phone.
- Confirm that the task appears in the Windows ChatGPT Desktop App in Codex mode, shown as
New task. - Refresh the task list on the Android phone.
- Observe that the task disappears from the Android task list.
- On Windows, observe that the task is still shown as
New taskand its conversation can still be opened. - Restart the Windows computer and reopen the ChatGPT Desktop App in Codex mode.
- Observe that the same task is now missing from the Windows sidebar as well.
What is the expected behavior?
A task created from Android through Codex Remote should remain visible and accessible in both the Android task list and the connected Windows ChatGPT Desktop App after list refreshes and host restarts, unless the user explicitly archives or deletes it.
Additional information
This is distinct from general desktop sidebar-history reports because it has a repeatable Remote-specific trigger: Android Remote task creation followed by an Android task-list refresh, then a Windows restart.
No conversation content, local logs, or account information are included in this report.
