What issue are you seeing?

ChatGPT Chat Proojects created on the web or iOS can be opened in ChatGPT Desktop app on MacOS but not created or moved to: you can't create a new ChatGPT Chat inside a Project (it only creates a ChatGPT Work session), neither can you move an existing ChatGPT Chat to a Project (you can only move ChatGPT Work sessions). All of that works on the web and iOS. Supper annoying and I will unsubscribe if not addressed. Really low attention to details, guys.

The new ChatGPT macOS desktop app is not providing ordinary Chat support inside Projects on my account.

Expected behavior, according to OpenAI’s July 16, 2026 release notes and the “Moving to the new ChatGPT desktop app” documentation:

I should be able to open a Project and choose Chat or Work.

I should be able to start an ordinary Chat conversation inside a Project.

Eligible ordinary chats should have a “Move to project” option.

Actual behavior:

My existing Projects appear in the macOS app.

I can start ChatGPT Work sessions inside Projects.

I can move Work sessions into Projects.

I cannot start an ordinary Chat conversation inside any Project.

Ordinary Chat conversations do not have a “Move to project” option.

The same Projects and chats work correctly on ChatGPT web and mobile.

This happens across multiple Projects and newly created ordinary chats, so it is not limited to one ineligible chat, a temporary chat, or a custom GPT conversation.

Please check whether the Chat-to-Projects desktop feature flag is missing or incorrectly configured on my account, or whether this is a regression in the current macOS build.

What steps can reproduce the bug?
