Codex Desktop macOS: "Collapse all" is missing when multiple project groups are expanded

What version of the Codex App are you using (From “About Codex” dialog)?

26.715.52143 (5591)

What subscription do you have?

ChatGPT Pro

What platform is your computer?

Darwin 24.6.0 arm64 arm

What issue are you seeing?

The Collapse all control is missing from the Projects section even when multiple project groups are expanded.

In the affected state:

  • The sidebar is organized By project.
  • At least two local project folders are visibly expanded and show their threads.
  • Hovering or focusing the Projects header shows only the project options menu and the add-project button.
  • The project options menu contains organization and sorting controls, but no Collapse all action.
  • There is therefore no way to collapse all expanded project groups at once.

This appears to be a UI regression rather than an intentional deprecation: no removal was announced in the Codex changelog, and the installed app bundle still contains the sidebarElectron.collapseAllGroups label and rendering logic.

What steps can reproduce the bug?

  1. Open Codex Desktop on macOS.
  2. In the Projects section, open the three-dot menu and select Organize → By project.
  3. Expand two or more local project folders so their child threads are visible.
  4. Hover or focus the Projects section header.
  5. Open the three-dot project options menu as an additional check.

Actual result: The header shows only the three-dot options button and the add-project button. No Collapse all button appears, and the three-dot menu has no equivalent action.

What is the expected behavior?

When two or more visible project groups are expanded, the Projects header should expose a Collapse all control. Activating it should collapse every expanded project group. The action should remain discoverable and keyboard accessible.

Additional information

Observed on macOS in Codex Desktop 26.715.52143 (5591).

A screenshot is attached showing two expanded project folders, the Projects header without a Collapse all control, and the open three-dot menu without an equivalent action.

Related but not a duplicate: #11911 requests a startup preference to collapse all threads by default. This report concerns an existing runtime action being unavailable in a valid sidebar state.
