Feature request: Add explicit proxy support to the ChatGPT desktop app
Open 💬 1 comment Opened Jul 21, 2026 by cfbber
Please consider adding explicit proxy configuration support to the ChatGPT desktop app, including HTTP/HTTPS, SOCKS5, and PAC file support.
Many users access ChatGPT from corporate, campus, or restricted networks where browser proxy settings do not reliably apply to the desktop app. A built-in proxy setting would make connectivity and troubleshooting more predictable.
Expected behavior:
- Settings for HTTP/HTTPS proxy configuration
- Optional SOCKS5 and PAC URL support
- Clear indication of whether the app is using the configured proxy
- Documentation for proxy authentication and certificates
Environment: Windows/macOS; ChatGPT desktop app, including Codex.
The public documentation does not appear to describe an explicit proxy setting for the desktop client. No credentials, API keys, cookies, or private logs are included.

Is there a clear solution available right now? There's an issue with our system; it only works if I add an extra parameter, and I can no longer launch the ChatGPT APP normally.
