Feature Request: Optional Conversation Context Permissions
I would like to request a new Conversation Context section in ChatGPT's settings that allows users to explicitly control whether certain non-sensitive contextual information is shared with the assistant.
Each item should have the following permission options:
- Never
- Ask Every Session
- Always Allow
Available Context Permissions
1. Local Date & Time
Provide the assistant with the user's current local date and time.
Benefits:
- Appropriate greetings (Good morning, Good afternoon, Good evening)
- Correct references to today, tomorrow, tonight, this afternoon, etc.
- More natural scheduling and planning conversations.
- Accurate temporal context during long discussions.

2. Time Zone
Provide the assistant with the user's current time zone.
Benefits:
- Correct interpretation of dates and times.
- Accurate reminders and scheduling.
- Better coordination when discussing events or travel.

3. Battery Level
Provide the assistant with the device's current battery level.
Benefits:
- Ability to warn users before beginning long tasks on low battery.
- More context-aware recommendations during extended work sessions.

4. Network Status
Provide the assistant with the device's current network connectivity status (e.g., online, offline, limited connectivity).
Benefits:
- More accurate troubleshooting.
- Better recommendations when internet connectivity affects tasks.
- Avoid suggesting online actions when the device is offline.

5. Calendar Availability
Allow the assistant to know whether the user's calendar indicates they are currently busy or available (without exposing calendar contents unless separately authorized).
Benefits:
- More context-aware scheduling suggestions.
- Better planning assistance.
- Improved conversational awareness when discussing meetings or available time.

Privacy Philosophy
These permissions should be entirely optional and disabled by default.
Each permission should be independently configurable using:
- Never
- Ask Every Session
- Always Allow
Users should be able to grant only the specific contextual information they are comfortable sharing.
The purpose of these permissions is not to provide access to personal files, applications, messages, or other private data. Instead, they are intended to provide limited contextual awareness that enables the assistant to communicate in a more natural, accurate, and helpful manner while preserving user control over privacy.
