What version of the Codex App are you using (From “About Codex” dialog)?

26.721.41059 (build 5848)

What subscription do you have?

Not provided.

What platform is your computer?

macOS 26.5.1 (25F80), Apple Silicon (arm64)

What issue are you seeing?

When the Codex in-app browser is open on macOS, invoking screenshot software can cause severe display corruption across the Mac screen. The system then suddenly becomes unresponsive or freezes.

This appears to be triggered specifically by the interaction between the active in-app browser/browser-use surface and screen capture.

What steps can reproduce the bug?

  1. Open the Codex desktop app on macOS.
  2. Open or activate the Codex in-app browser.
  3. While the in-app browser remains open, invoke a screenshot utility.
  4. Start capturing the screen or selecting a capture region.
  5. Observe screen corruption/visual artifacts, followed by the Mac becoming unresponsive or freezing.

What is the expected behavior?

Screenshot tools should work normally while the Codex in-app browser is open. Capturing the screen should not corrupt the display or freeze the Mac.

Additional information

  • The issue is associated with the in-app browser being open.
  • The exact screenshot utility was not recorded in this report.
  • Possibly related to #20556, which reports screenshot freezes after enabling Codex/Computer Use screen-recording permissions. This report has a more specific trigger: taking a screenshot while the Codex in-app browser is open.
