What version of the Codex App are you using (From “About Codex” dialog)?

ChatGPT (Powered by Codex & OWL) Version 26.721.41059 Released Jul 24, 2026 Standalone installer downloaded from chatgpt.com

What subscription do you have?

ChatGPT Plus

What platform is your computer?

Microsoft Windows NT 10.0.26200.0 x64

What issue are you seeing?

The Windows ChatGPT desktop app does not display my cloud archived chats.

I archived a cloud conversation on chatgpt.com. The conversation disappeared from the web sidebar and appears correctly under:

Settings → Data Controls → Archived Chats → Manage

However, in the Windows desktop app (same account), Settings → Archived chats is always empty.

Initially, the archived chat also remained in the desktop sidebar. After logging out and logging back in, the chat disappeared from the sidebar, but Settings → Archived chats is still empty.

Expected behavior:
The Windows desktop app should display the same archived cloud chats that are visible on the web.

Actual behavior:
The web shows the archived chats correctly, but the desktop app's Archived chats page remains empty.

What steps can reproduce the bug?

Feedback ID: no-active-thread-019fa9e6-9315-7bf2-89b0-b753944dca9f

What is the expected behavior?

The Windows desktop app should display the same cloud archived chats that are visible on chatgpt.com → Settings → Data Controls → Archived Chats → Manage.
When a cloud chat is archived from the web, it should appear in Settings → Archived chats in the Windows app without requiring the user to sign out and back in.
Additionally, if the Windows app supports archiving of local chats, those archived local chats should also be displayed in the Archived chats section, clearly distinguished from cloud archived chats if necessary.

Additional information

Windows ChatGPT standalone installer from chatgpt.com.

Version: 26.721.41059 (Released Jul 24, 2026)

The web interface correctly shows the archived chat. The desktop app uses the same account. Logging out and back in refreshes the sidebar, but Settings → Archived chats remains empty.

I can confirm a related stale-sidebar case in Codex Desktop for Windows.

Environment

  • Codex Desktop app: 26.730.7989
  • Windows x64
  • Local Codex chat (not a cloud chat)

Observed behavior

  • A failed/stalled local chat appeared in Recent as New chat with a clock icon.
  • The thread was successfully stopped and archived.
  • The durable thread state reports archived = 1, and the normal recent-thread listing no longer returns the thread.
  • Despite that, the sidebar row remains visible.
  • Refreshing, opening another chat, fully exiting the app, and restarting the app did not remove the stale row.

Expected behavior
Once a local thread is archived and excluded from the active thread list, its row should disappear from the Recent sidebar after reconciliation or restart.

No private transcript, local paths, account details, or raw state database are attached. This looks like Desktop sidebar state/cache reconciliation drifting from the app-server/durable archived state.
