What version of the Codex App are you using (From “About Codex” dialog)?

Windows desktop app, updated within the last day. Version shown in app footer: "5.6 Sol" (exact build number to be confirmed via Help > About).

What subscription do you have?

Pro

What platform is your computer?

Windows

What issue are you seeing?

After updating yesterday, the app opens to the empty "What should we build?" home state with no existing projects or conversation history visible in the sidebar. This matches the pattern reported in #19290 and #27453 - sidebar/project list appears empty after a Windows update.

Also seeing a Windows-level "Windows setup didn't finish - Continue without administrator access" prompt overlaid on the app at launch, which may be related to the update not completing cleanly (possibly a helper component or driver install failing to elevate).

What steps can reproduce the bug?

  1. Update ChatGPT Desktop/Codex on Windows
  2. Relaunch app
  3. Sidebar/project list is empty, no prior chats or projects shown
  4. "Windows setup didn't finish" prompt appears at launch requesting to continue without admin access

What is the expected behavior?

Existing projects and conversation history should persist across the update, and the update should complete without requiring a manual "continue without administrator access" workaround.
