The GitHub connector authenticates the account but never creates or associates a GitHub App installation
What version of the Codex App are you using (From “About Codex” dialog)?
ChatGPT Powered by Codex & OWL Version 26.727.51351 Released Jul 31, 2026
What subscription do you have?
Plus
What platform is your computer?
Microsoft Windows NT 10.0.19045.0 x64
What issue are you seeing?
One thing I noticed
Your Settings page labels this under Plugins, not Connectors.
That makes me wonder whether you're on a newer client talking to an older connector backend (or vice versa). The UI terminology has been changing recently, and it's possible your account is in an intermediate state.
I'm not confident that's the cause, but it's another data point worth including if you contact support.
What I'd do next
I'd report it to OpenAI with the diagnostics we've gathered.
The important part isn't "GitHub doesn't work."
It's this:
The GitHub connector authenticates the account but never creates or associates a GitHub App installation. The connector reports zero installations and zero accessible repositories, and GitHub never prompts for repository authorization.
Those details will be much more actionable for the engineering team.
What steps can reproduce the bug?
Feedback ID: no-active-thread-019fc089-2ce3-77a2-a55e-74a6b60d93ca
What is the expected behavior?
The ChatGPT desktop client should be able to read my private repo on GitHub. This is a cloud chat in the desktop client.
