Summary

While using Voice in Codex Desktop on macOS, the live voice session can disconnect after switching to another application for a few minutes. The disconnect appears to happen without an intentional end action.

Steps observed

  1. Start a Voice conversation in Codex Desktop.
  2. Switch to another macOS application and leave Codex in the background for several minutes.
  3. Return to Codex.

Actual behavior

The active voice session has disconnected and must be started again.

Expected behavior

The voice session should remain connected while Codex is backgrounded for a reasonable period, or the app should clearly document an idle/background timeout and recover the session gracefully.

Environment

  • Platform: macOS
  • macOS: 26.5.2 (25F84)
  • ChatGPT desktop app: 26.730.61639 (6234)
  • Experience: Codex Desktop Voice

The behavior was first noticed recently. The user does not know whether the trigger is strictly backgrounding, an inactivity timeout, or a related network/session condition.
