When pasted content uses CRLF line endings, every line break is duplicated
in the composer. A 3-line paste becomes 5 lines, with a blank line between
each. Only newlines are affected — no characters are dropped or mangled.
The composer appears to treat \r and \n as two independent newline
insertions instead of normalizing \r\n to a single line break.
This is not a fallback-path issue: bracketed paste is active and working.
I verified the terminal emits the wrapper sequences by enabling the mode
manually and inspecting the raw bytes (see repro step 4) — ^[[200~ and^[[201~ are present around the pasted block. Codex receives the paste as
a single bracketed block and still duplicates the newlines.
Terminal dependency: I only hit this in terminals that pass the clipboard
through unmodified. In Windows Terminal it does not reproduce, because WT
normalizes line endings before handing the paste to the application, so
Codex never sees the \r. In Zed's integrated terminal, which passes the
content through as-is, it reproduces every time.
Same terminal, same clipboard, same session: Claude Code, opencode and
Kiro CLI all paste correctly. Codex is the only one that duplicates.
This matters in practice because CRLF is what you get from essentially any
Windows application — browser, editor, Office. On real pastes of a few
thousand lines, every single line break comes back doubled.
What steps can reproduce the bug?
- Set the clipboard to a known CRLF string. In PowerShell:

and paste into the composer. Do not send.
Result: 5 lines instead of 3.
- Optional — confirm bracketed paste is active in that terminal:

I traced this to the paste handler in codex-rs/tui/src/app.rs. It currently replaces every carriage return independently, so a CRLF sequence becomes two LF characters and produces the extra blank line.
The minimal fix is to normalize CRLF first and then normalize any remaining bare CR. I prepared the patch and regression test here:

The test covers mixed CRLF, bare CR, and LF input in one paste and verifies that each logical line break becomes exactly one LF.

Per the external contribution policy, I have not opened an unsolicited PR. If this implementation direction looks right, would a maintainer be willing to invite a PR? I can open it immediately from the ready branch.
