The Codex desktop app Pets feature is unable to create a custom pet and does not appear to synchronise existing ChatGPT pets.
The Pets section is available in the Codex app and built-in pets are displayed correctly.
However:
- Existing pets configured in ChatGPT are not available in Codex.
- Attempting to create a custom pet fails with the error:
"Unable to start pet creation"
The issue appears to affect the custom pet creation workflow or the synchronisation of pets between ChatGPT and Codex.

What is the expected behavior?
Expected behaviour:
- Existing ChatGPT pets should be available consistently within The new App (Chat/work/Codex), or
- The custom pet creation workflow should open successfully and allow a new custom pet to be created.
The Pets feature should behave consistently across ChatGPT and Codex.

The issue appears to be limited to the Codex Pets functionality.
The following appears to work correctly:
- Codex installation
- Workspace functionality
- Built-in pet catalogue loading
The problem appears to occur specifically when:
- synchronising existing pets from ChatGPT, or
- starting the custom pet creation workflow.
Codex diagnostics report:
"Codex dependencies look healthy"
No local file paths or personal information are included for privacy reasons.
