On August 10, 2026, ChatGPT automatically generated a Chinese title for an entirely English-language conversation.
The generated title was:
创建交易讨论手册
which means approximately “Create Deal Discussion Playbook.”
The semantic title is appropriate, but the language is not. I did not use Chinese anywhere in the conversation and did not request a Chinese title.
This occurred in the ChatGPT iOS app. I have attached a screenshot showing the Chinese conversation title in the notification while the underlying conversation is in English.
This appears similar to previous reports from users of auto-generated ChatGPT titles appearing in random languages.
Expected behavior: The conversation title should be generated in the language of the conversation or the user's configured ChatGPT language.
Actual behavior: An English conversation received a Simplified Chinese auto-generated title.
Please investigate whether the conversation-title language-detection/generation system is incorrectly selecting languages.
