macOS Turkish keyboard: @ and $ shortcuts are intercepted in Codex

Resolved 💬 1 comment Opened Aug 12, 2026 by l3aki Closed Aug 12, 2026

Summary

On macOS with the Turkish keyboard layout, the native shortcuts used to type @ and $ cannot be entered in Codex:

  • Command + Q for @
  • Option + 4 for $

The same keyboard shortcuts work correctly in Claude.

Expected behavior

Codex should pass these keyboard-layout input combinations through as text, producing @ and $, rather than handling or intercepting them as application shortcuts.

Actual behavior

The characters cannot be typed with the Turkish keyboard layout in Codex.

Environment

  • Platform: macOS
  • Keyboard layout: Turkish
  • Affected characters: @, $

This is especially disruptive because @ is commonly required for mentions, paths, and other input.
