[macOS][Computer History] “permissions could not be loaded” for ChatGPT Pro user

What version of the Codex App are you using?

ChatGPT desktop 26.810.41047 (build 6570)

What subscription do you have?

ChatGPT Pro

What platform is your computer?

  • macOS 15.7.9 (build 24G830)
  • Intel x86_64
  • Region: Honduras

What issue are you seeing?

I cannot complete setup for Computer History. In Settings → Integrations → Computer history, the app repeatedly displays:

Computer history permissions could not be loaded. If the issue persists, please restart ChatGPT.

I verified through /memories that both Use memories and Generate memories are enabled. The app still cannot load the Computer History permissions.

What steps can reproduce the bug?

  1. Open the ChatGPT desktop app on macOS.
  2. Open Settings → Integrations → Computer history.
  3. Select Turn on.
  4. Review the setup screen and select Continue.
  5. Observe the error: “Computer history permissions could not be loaded.”
  6. Select Try again.
  7. Fully quit ChatGPT with Cmd+Q, reopen it, and repeat the setup.
  8. The same error remains.

What is the expected behavior?

The permissions screen should load so that a ChatGPT Pro user can choose the apps and websites allowed to contribute to Computer History and complete setup.

Additional information

  • Both chat memory switches are enabled.
  • The documented Try again and full app restart recovery steps were completed.
  • The failure happens before the app and website permission selections load.
  • No account email, billing details, or other private identifiers are included in this public report.
  • Screenshots of the exact error and enabled memory settings are available and will be attached separately.

Screenshots showing (1) the Computer History permissions-loading error and (2) that both Use memories and Generate memories are enabled:

Additional reproduction on an Intel Mac:

  • The setup initially failed with: "Computer history permissions could not be loaded."
  • After retrying, the UI now fails earlier, immediately after selecting Turn on, with: "Computer history could not be turned on. Restart ChatGPT, and try again."
  • Fully quitting ChatGPT with Cmd+Q and reopening it did not resolve either error.
  • Accessibility was already enabled. Temporarily enabling Screen Recording and Full Disk Access did not change the result.
  • Screenshots of both states were submitted through in-app feedback.
