Severe system-wide lag after updating Codex to 26.810.6296.0 on Windows

What issue are you seeing?

After updating the Codex Windows app to version 26.810.6296.0, my entire PC starts lagging and stuttering as soon as Codex is opened, even when Codex is completely idle and no task is running.

This issue started immediately after the latest update. Two days ago, before the update, Codex was working normally on the same PC without any system-wide lag.

The lag affects the entire Windows interface, including mouse movement, opening windows, and general responsiveness.

Task Manager shows activity from the ChatGPT/Codex processes even while Codex is idle. Total system RAM usage is only around 33%, so the issue does not appear to be caused by insufficient memory.

ChatGPT Desktop version: 1.2026.190.0
OS: Windows 11 x64
CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 5600
RAM: 16 GB DDR4 3200 MHz
Storage: NVMe M.2 SSD (~2600 MB/s)

Steps to reproduce:

Start Windows normally.
Open the Codex app.
Do not start any Codex task.
After Codex is open, the entire system begins to lag/stutter.
Closing Codex completely makes the system responsiveness improve.

Expected behavior:
Codex should remain idle without causing noticeable CPU/disk activity or system-wide lag.

Actual behavior:
Simply having Codex open causes severe system-wide stuttering and responsiveness problems.

The issue only appeared after the latest Codex update.

What steps can reproduce the bug?

1. Start Windows normally.
2. Open the Codex Desktop app.
3. Leave Codex idle without starting any task.
4. Within a short time, the entire Windows system begins to lag and stutter.
5. Mouse movement, window animations, and general system responsiveness become noticeably slow.
6. Close Codex completely.
7. System performance returns to normal or improves significantly.

This behavior started immediately after updating Codex to version 26.810.6296.0. The previous version worked normally on the same computer.

What is the expected behavior?

Codex should be able to remain open and idle without causing system-wide lag, stuttering, or abnormal background resource usage.

The Windows interface, mouse movement, and other applications should remain responsive while Codex is open.
