Desktop app syncs only 10 of 23 ChatGPT project sources into Codex mirror

Environment

  • ChatGPT desktop for macOS
  • App version: 26.810.52044
  • Mode: Codex
  • Date observed: August 15, 2026

Problem

A cloud ChatGPT project contains 23 uploaded PDF sources. When the project is made available to Codex desktop, the generated local project mirror contains only 10 sources.

The generated AGENTS.md explicitly reports that 13 project sources could not be synchronized. The 10 synchronized files appear to be the 10 oldest sources in the cloud project.

The cloud ChatGPT project remains intact and all 23 sources remain visible through ChatGPT on the web.

Steps to reproduce

  1. Open a cloud ChatGPT project containing 23 uploaded PDF sources.
  2. Access that project through Codex in the ChatGPT desktop app.
  3. Inspect the generated project mirror under ~/.codex/.chatgpt-projects/.
  4. Count the files in the mirror's sources folder.
  5. Compare the mirror with the cloud project's Sources list.

Expected behavior

All supported project sources should synchronize into the Codex mirror. If some sources cannot be synchronized, the desktop app should identify the failed files and provide a visible retry or rebuild option.

Actual behavior

Only 10 of 23 sources are available in the mirror. Thirteen sources are missing, and there is no visible retry or repair option.

Updating and subsequently reinstalling the desktop application did not rebuild or complete the mirror.

The project inventory can see the cloud project, but existing Codex tasks continue to use the incomplete mirror.
