Don't think it's a bug. I'm facing the same problem. They have way higher 5h limits than Claude Code so that you can quickly use up your weekly limit.

What I hate is the lack of transparency. that's why I created this

The experience of a paying user for a product that applies unquantified/quantifiable limits and blocks you for up to 6 days is incredibly awful.

Not to mention for work purposes (where they might try to force you to upgrade to the next plan that costs 10x). Even for hobbyists, starting work on a project only to be forced to take a 6-day break is unthinkable.

Explicit limits are needed, and knowing when the cooldown window expires is essential. Otherwise, it's unusable.

Even if you don't want to set explicit limits for internal reasons (which is inconvenient for the user anyway), setting a 7-day cooldown window is absurd. I would have done a maximum of 1 day after doing two 5-hour session blocks.

It must be. I got limited after 2 coding sessions that were 30 minutes each. After 30 minutes it blocked for 4-5 hours, after those 4-5 hours it allowed for another 30 minutes to then outright block me for 6 days.

Now to compare, GPT-5 alone, in high mode without the new codex model, it would rip through code for 2 straight days or even 3 days, constantly doing tasks every 20-30 minutes or so before hitting the weekly limit.

Also appears the new codex model is totally garbage. Asked it to do some small changes, instead it tore apart the codebase, moving around .env files, moving around the .env values into hardcoded ones, hell, even imagined several NPM packages that caused the whole project to break down at core level.

I would make two changes

  • Some sort of transparency into how close you are to usage - combined with the weekly usage limit, this seems like a must, as finding out you're five days away from being able to use it again with no warning is just bad
  • Ideally, daily usage limits or at least suggested daily usage limits in-app. Claude Code provides 5 hour limits - I'd rather have the weekly amount forced to be spread out than have it work the way it does today. At least give me an option or visibility.

This would be a nice option. We need to plan our weekly limit. I asked for transparency in #3900 can you write this idea there? This way we keep the transparency request together.

For me, too:

You've hit your usage limit. Upgrade to Pro (https://openai.com/chatgpt/pricing) or try again in 4 days 16 hours 17 minutes.

This is highly intransparent. Enable the user to check their usage and limits!

Update your CLI. You can now check stats and see total limits in %.

5h limit: [████████░░░░░░░░░░░░] 40% used (resets 09:10)
Weekly limit: [██░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░] 12% used (resets 04:10 on 6 Oct)

This is my first session of the week, which is about to finish. I’ve only used 40% of my 5-hour limit, but the weekly limit already shows 12% used. That means if I max out three 5-hour sessions, I’ll be at 90% of the weekly limit. Add another half session, and the weekly cap is gone. So in total, just about 3.5 sessions are enough to finish the weekly limit, then I'd be forced to wait until next week.

Last week went smoothly, so it feels like these limits have been messed up.

_You've hit your usage limit. To get more access now, send a request to your admin or try again in 6 days 3 hours 25 minutes._

  • The lack of transparency and warning is mind numbing.
  • Crashes way too often, essentially wasting my awfully limited tokens by making me start over in another chat.
  • The context window is unbelievable too small to get anything meaningful done.
  • You basically have to re-train it about your business rules over and over again in a new chat thereby consuming even more of the limited tokens.
  • It is so slow it's basically un-usable without multi-tasking and simply running it in the background.

On a business plan and i have it so bad. Wow ... just wow.

PS - ONLY true upside i have seen as a skilled and experienced developer, is that i can say that the quality of code is actually good but the experience is so bad i'll have to dump it.

  • You do see your usage now, since like a week or two. No idea about business plans, but this should apply globally to all plans. It does also give you warnings when you hit 75% of your total window.
  • The context window is what, a little over 200k tokens? Maybe 300-400 now? I'm not keeping up with the updates, but 200k is huge even for larger codebases if you know how to use the tool. You shouldn't be using a single chat for everything due to context pollution and degradation.
  • No, you don't re-train it nor should you waste prompts on that. Write all important rules into agents.md so it auto-reads it at start. That's how operating on large codebases works, through the agents.md file to keep up all the rules/important information.

Regarding crashes or slowdowns, I can't comment on that as I didn't experience any.

I'm speechless. I just recharged my account and this happened 2 days after I started using it. I can't play anymore.

您已达到使用限制。升级到专业版(https://openai.com/chatgpt/pricing)或在5天5小时31分钟后再试一次。

从5小时限制恢复后,只需一个请求,就得到了5天的期限。不是疯了吗?
