What version of the Codex App are you using (From “About Codex” dialog)?

26.810.52044 (Powered by Codex & OWL, released Aug 15, 2026)

What subscription do you have?

ChatGPT Pro

What platform is your computer?

Darwin 25.5.0 arm64 arm

macOS 26.5.2 on a MacBook Pro with Apple M1 Max and 32 GB RAM.

What issue are you seeing?

Switching between the ChatGPT and Codex views in the unified desktop app takes unexpectedly long and shows a blocking loading state.

After selecting the other product from the switcher in the top-left corner, the primary window is covered by a loader for long enough that the app appears stuck. There is no progress or status explaining what is being initialized.

The issue has remained reproducible across repeated switches and makes a primary navigation action feel unresponsive.

What steps can reproduce the bug?

  1. Open the ChatGPT desktop app on macOS.
  2. Open the ChatGPT/Codex product switcher in the top-left corner.
  3. Switch from ChatGPT to Codex, or from Codex to ChatGPT.
  4. Observe the blocking loading state before the selected view becomes usable.
  5. Repeat the switch and observe the delay again.

No Codex task, session, token limit, or context-window usage is involved. The delay occurs at the product-view transition itself.

What is the expected behavior?

Switching between ChatGPT and Codex should complete almost immediately. If initialization is required, the current view should remain usable or the app should show meaningful non-blocking progress rather than covering the primary UI with an unexplained loader.

Additional information

This is a desktop navigation/performance issue rather than model-response latency.

A short screen recording showing the complete loading interval can be added.
